Workshop description
This workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of advanced abdominal MR imaging, focusing on both the technical and clinical aspects essential for high-quality imaging and accurate disease assessment. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the technical requirements for abdominal MRI at both 1.5T and 3.0T, including state-of-the-art sequences and AI-enabled image acquisition. The session covers current MR protocols for various abdominal pathologies, the selection and use of contrast agents and adjunctive drugs, as well as key MR safety measures. Troubleshooting common artefacts in abdominal imaging will also be a key focus.
On the clinical side, the workshop will guide participants through the MRI evaluation of focal and diffuse liver diseases, biliary pathologies, and pancreatic lesions, with an emphasis on distinguishing between cystic and solid masses. Additionally, it will cover MRI applications for assessing diseases of the rectum, small bowel, peritoneum, and retroperitoneum. This workshop provides a well-rounded foundation for radiologists and medical professionals looking to expand their expertise in abdominal MR imaging.
Learning objectives:
Part I: Technical implementation
- To understand the technical requirements of MR imaging of the abdomen.
- To review the state-of-the-art abdominal MR imaging sequences at 1.5T and 3.0T, including AI-enabled image acquisitions
- To learn current MR imaging protocols for different abdominal pathologies
- To understand the choice of MR contrast media and other drugs to augment disease assessment
- To appreciate MR safety measures
- To understand and trouble-shoot common MR artefacts in the abdomen
Part II: Abdominal organs and diseases
- To learn the approaches to the evaluation of focal and diffuse liver disease on MRI
- To review the role of MRI for diseases of the biliary disease
- To understand the MR imaging features of cystic and solid pancreatic lesions and their mimics
- To appreciate the role of MRI for diseases of the rectum and small bowel
- To use MRI to assess peritoneal and retroperitoneal diseases
